Cupping Therapy

What is Cupping Therapy?

Cupping Therapy is a technique in which the practitioner creates a vacuum/suction effect with a cup and places said cup on the patient’s skin.

Cupping therapy increases local blood circulation, resolves swelling, pain and tension. It may also help to remove toxins. The vacuum effect within the cup draws the skin and underlying tissue partially into the cup. This increases blood flow nourishes the tissues and creates a slight traction which loosens fascia and other connective tissues.

Cupping can also be thought of as a deep tissue massage. With massage the tissues are compressed downwards to help break apart muscular adhesions, scar tissue and increase blood flow to promote healing. In cupping therapy the tissue is drawn upward vector creating a ‘negative pressure massage’.
